Military Fitness & PFT Preparation

Military PFT & Fitness Training in San Diego

Individualized fitness and PFT preparation for Navy, Marine Corps, and other military service members in the San Diego area.

At Fit Monkeys, we provide individualized fitness training for military members preparing for their required Physical Fitness Test or other service-specific fitness assessments.

We've worked with Navy and Marine Corps service members preparing for and successfully passing their required fitness tests, and we build training around the individual, the requirements of their branch, and the areas where they need the most improvement.

PFT Preparation

Train With a Purpose

Military service can place significant demands on your body, and preparing for a fitness test is about more than simply passing on test day.

We start by looking at the requirements of your specific test, your current performance, your test date, and the areas where you need to improve. From there, we build a progressive training program around you and the standards you're preparing to meet.

Depending on your needs, training may focus on cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance, strength, mobility, stability, running, and the specific events included in your test.

We also consider the bigger picture. With so much being asked of your body throughout your service, thoughtful programming, appropriate progression, recovery, and well-rounded fitness are important for building physical resilience and helping reduce injury risk.

Our goal is to help you meet the demands in front of you while building the strength, fitness, and training habits that support long-term physical health and the ability to stay active throughout your service and beyond.

Strength & Conditioning

Build the Fitness Behind Your Performance

Passing a fitness test isn't only about repeatedly practicing the test itself.

We use strength and conditioning to develop the underlying physical qualities that support your performance, including strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular fitness, mobility, stability, and movement control.

Training is progressed thoughtfully based on your current abilities and preparation timeline, with the goal of improving performance while also helping your body become better prepared for the demands of training and testing.

Smart Programming

More Isn't Always Better

When a fitness-test deadline is approaching, it can be tempting to simply add more running, more repetitions, and more training volume.

We prioritize appropriate exercise selection, gradual progression, recovery, and programming that takes your current fitness level, training history, and available preparation time into account.

No training program can guarantee that an injury won't occur, but thoughtful programming can help build greater strength and physical capacity while helping reduce injury risk as you prepare for your test.

Individualized Training

Focus on Where You Need to Improve

Every service member comes to us with different strengths and challenges.

One person may already be a strong runner but need greater muscular endurance. Another may be strong in the gym but need to improve cardiovascular fitness. Someone else may need to improve several areas at once.

Rather than giving everyone the same PFT workout, we identify your strengths, limitations, and areas for improvement and prioritize your training accordingly.

Our Experience

We've Helped Military Members Prepare and Pass

We've worked with Navy and Marine Corps service members preparing for and successfully passing their required physical fitness assessments.

Our backgrounds in Pilates, personal training, corrective exercise, and a wide variety of training methods have given us a deep understanding of movement and physical conditioning. We combine that knowledge with the requirements of your fitness test to create training that is purposeful, progressive, and built around you.

Our goal isn't simply to get you through test day. It's to help you prepare intelligently, improve your performance, and build a stronger, more capable body in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Military Fitness FAQs

Can you help me prepare for my military PFT?

Yes. We can build your training around your branch's current fitness-test requirements, your present performance, and the areas you need to improve.

If you know your upcoming test date, let us know so we can also consider the amount of preparation time available when developing your program.

Which military branches have you worked with?

We have experience helping Navy and Marine Corps service members prepare for and successfully pass their required fitness tests.

We can also work with members of other military branches by reviewing the requirements of their specific fitness assessment and building training around those standards.

What if I'm struggling with only one part of my fitness test?

That's where individualized training can be especially useful.

If you're already performing well in some events but struggling with another, we can place greater emphasis on the area that needs improvement while continuing to support your overall fitness.

Can you guarantee I'll pass my PFT?

No. We can't guarantee a particular test result. Your outcome depends on factors including your starting fitness level, consistency, available preparation time, and performance on test day.

What we can provide is structured, progressive training designed around your current abilities and the physical requirements you're preparing to meet.

How far in advance of my PFT should I start training?

More preparation time generally gives us greater opportunity to progressively develop your fitness rather than trying to make significant changes immediately before your test.

Contact us with your test date, current performance, and the areas you're concerned about, and we can discuss an appropriate approach.

Is virtual military fitness and PFT training available?

Yes. In addition to in-person training at our Carlsbad studio, we offer live virtual training for military members who aren't located nearby or who need greater flexibility with their schedule.

Virtual training can be built around your current fitness level, available equipment, upcoming test requirements, and the areas you need to improve.

Military Fitness Workshops

Train Smarter. Move Better. Stay Ready.

We provide fitness workshops for military groups and organizations focused on smarter training, movement, recovery, and long-term physical readiness.

We can teach service members how to look at their own movement and recognize areas where they may benefit from greater mobility, stability, strength, balance, or control. This helps service members better understand their individual needs and make more informed decisions about what to include in their training.

Workshops can also explore the importance of thoughtful programming, including appropriate training volume, exercise selection, progression, and recovery. By understanding these principles, service members can make more informed decisions about how they train and develop a more balanced approach to their overall fitness.

While no approach can eliminate the possibility of injury, developing greater physical capacity and using appropriate programming may help reduce injury risk while supporting performance, physical resilience, and long-term readiness.

Workshops can be tailored to the needs of your group. Contact us with your location, approximate group size, and areas of interest, and we'll work with you to develop an appropriate workshop.
